Isis

Isis Gallery is a new arrival on the London art scene; Soho based and representing artists who create beautiful works, primarily on paper.

Isis is currently working with legendary Sex Pistols illustrator Jamie Reid and the magickal art of cult musician David Tibet. There are drawings and collages by Antony Hegarty, the breathtakingly precise, detourned drawings by former tattoo artist Ruth Marten and Alice O'Malley's intimate silver gelatin prints of Lower East Side characters.

Rebels in Control have designed a CMS-managed website for Isis and its artist pages, clean and minimal in style, announcing Isis activities and providing plenty of background reading on Isis artists.

Touch

Since its first release in 1982, Touch has created sonic and visual productions that combine innovation with a level of care and attention that has made it the most enduring of any independent music company of its time.

Rebels in Control have just redesigned the Touch website in close collaboration with founders Jon Wozencroft and Mike Harding. Based around a CMS backbone, the site is intended to be an archive of the publishers activities from their very beginning onwards, featuring a complete catalogue, reviews archive, the TouchRadio mp3 project, essays from Touch and even a recipe book…

This latest venture is part of an ongoing relationship with the publishers, which has previously included designing microsites for Touch artists, and cover art for sister label Ash International.

The Opiates

The Opiates are Robert Solheim and Billie Ray Martin. Their forthcoming album Hollywood Under The Knife explores paths pioneered by the Chicago house and Detroit techno heroes, not least Electribe 101, with the aim of taking things forward a step in history.

Although Kraftwerk and Yazoo have been mentioned as influences, their very unique brand of electronic music is as much Carpenters as it is cutting-edge electro, with a nod to current minimal influences.

Rebels in Control designed the stark cover art for their debut EP, Anatomy Of A Plastic Girl, available as a limited 10" vinyl and digital download. Please visit their MySpace page for further information.

Julien Macdonald

Julien Macdonald embarked upon his career as a fashion designer at his graduation show at the Royal College of Art in June 1996. Macdonald was appointed head designer of knitwear at the House of Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld from 1996-98, and in 2001 was invited to become Creative Director at Givenchy in Paris. Three years later, Macdonald returned to London to concentrate on his own label, and in November 2006 he was awarded an OBE for his services to the fashion industry.

November 2007: Julien Macdonald announced in Moscow that he has agreed a deal with private investor Jamey Hargreaves to build the Julien Macdonald business into a glamorous British luxury brand.

Rebels In Control are delighted to have created a mini "lookbook" site for the Julien Macdonald brand, his first website, and are looking forward to help building the brand over 2008.

Steve Jansen

Steve Jansen was one of the founder members of legendary new wave group Japan. His post-Japan career has seen Jansen as an in-demand drummer and percussionist for a wide range of international artists. Recently he reunited with his brother David Sylvian, working together on the SamadhiSound label and their group with Burnt Friedman, Nine Horses.

In October 2007, Steve releases his solo album "Slope" featuring guest contributions from Anja Garbarek, David Sylvian, Theo Travis and Joan As Policewoman. Rebels In Control have designed a microsite to promote the release, taking our cue from Chris Bigg's artwork.

Previously, Rebels In Control designed Steve's official website, which features a PayPal shop where his fans can purchase high-quality prints of photos shot by Jansen in the 80s at the height of Japan's fame.

Dover Street Market E-Shop

Until July 2005, the only online activity for the Comme des Garçons brand had been short term websites announcing ad hoc Guerilla stores. A flagship department store in London’s Dover Street was opened in September 10th 2004. The task of creating the website for the store, the first ever online venture to emanate directly from the parent brand, fell to Rebels In Control. We continue to work closely with Comme des Garçons management, updating the online DSM Paper on a monthly basis and managing their online communications.

Renowned world-wide for their astonishing clothes and distinctive, minimalist graphic style, a webshop for Comme des Garçons Dover Street Market was the natural follow-on from the website we created for them.

The Dover Street Market E-Shop was the result of several months development, working closely with the Comme des Garçons team to ensure that the site is well integrated with their in-house procedures, and taking great care to ensure perfect sympathy with the graphic style of the parent brand and Dover Street Market website. The webshop was launched with a small, core range of clothes, gifts and fragrances, which has slowly expanded as new collections have been launched during 2007/08.

Rebels In Control are very proud to have had sole responsibility for this initiative which represents a radical departure for the Comme des Garçons brand.

Velorose

velorose.com is a classic example of a Rebels In Control end-to-end brand identity project.

We were approached by velorose director David Rosenberg to create an identity for his company that not only fitted a complex and demanding brief but was capable of being customized or personalized by him according to the wide variety of his offer to clients.

David needed a tangible symbol to represent his brand that would work across a number of different media. Collaborating with designer Oscar Henriquez, a member of our ad-hoc creative panel, Rebels created a large raft of ideas for the brand identity, working creatively with David to select from these the winning route.

We then oversaw the full development of the identity across luscious business cards with immense feel-appeal that can be infinitely customized and a website for his identity and core proposition which you can see in all its pink glory.

Wright & Teague

Gary Wright and Sheila Teague met and studied at Central Saint Martins and formed one of London's most enduring creative partnerships. Wright & Teague's distinctive jewellery, launched in 1984, is designed with passion, artistic integrity and timeless spirit.

Their Mayfair store opened in 1998. Nine years on they approached Rebels In Control to take their catalogue online. Rebels In Control rebuilt their website from the ground-up, incorporating an easy-to-maintain eBoutique where customers can browse and purchase items from their collection. We are continuing to work with Wright & Teague to further develop their online offer in line with the seasonal demands of the jewellery sector.

The Food Chain / The Ian Craddock Cookbook

The Food Chain provides nutritional services including the delivery of hot meals to those living with HIV related illnesses. Rebels In Control were very pleased to create a new website for The Food Chain which contains an extensive library of information for its volunteers and users. The website puts management in full control of the content, particularly useful for such an active charity.

Our second project for The Food Chain was the Ian Craddock cookbook, an online collection of recipes designed to meet the needs of HIV positive people, in memory of much loved lead-cook Ian.

This sister-site is open to the general public but was specifically designed to support TFC's lead-cooks and to advise service users. All the recipes have been analysed by the nutrition committee and contain detailed nutritional information. Recipes can be sorted by meal type, cuisine, course and dietary need. The online cookbook will grow as contributions from volunteers, lead cooks, patrons and celebrities are added over the coming months, building into a valuable resource for the HIV community as a whole, or for anyone interested in creating meals for up to fifty servings!

IBM 1401, A User's Manual

Jóhann Jóhannsson is an Icelandic musician, composer, producer and an active member of that country’s artistic community (as the founder of the Kitchen Motors label / think tank / art collective, founder member of Apparat Organ Quartet and as a serial collaborator).

His new album "IBM 1401, A User's Manual" is his first for the legendary 4AD label. Inspired by a recording of an IBM mainframe computer which Jóhann’s father, Jóhann Gunnarsson, made on a reel-to-reel tape machine more than 30 years ago, the piece was originally written to be performed by a string quartet as the accompaniment to a dance piece by the choreographer Erna Ómarsdóttir. For the album version, Jóhann rewrote the entire score, and it was recorded by a sixty-piece string orchestra. He also added a new final section and incorporated electronics alongside those original tape recordings of the singing computer.

Jóhann and 4AD commissioned Rebels In Control to design a site promoting the album, working from artwork supplied by their house designers v23. We also took the opportunity to spruce up Jóhann's personal site, bringing it more into line with his new art direction.

Derek Bailey

Derek Bailey, who died on Christmas Day 2005 aged 75, left behind a lifetime of collaborations, friendships, and a vast treasure hoard of recordings accumulated in fifty years during which he was one of the principle figures responsible for the rise of improvisation in music in the West. One of his final collaborations was with Samadhisound’s David Sylvian, who invited him to “provide me with a challenge as a vocalist”.

Sylvian's label released these recordings on CD in September 2006. Rebels In Control designed an artist site to promote the release, incorporating elements from Chris Bigg's beautiful album cover design.
