Rebels in Control have just completed work on two sites for artist Jamie Reid.

Reid's longstanding practice as an artist sits firmly within a tradition of English radical dissent that would include, for example, William Blake, Wat Tyler and Gerrard Winstanley. Like them, the work of dissent must offer, out of necessity, other social and spiritual models and Reid's practice is no exception.

Although Reid is known primarily for the deployment of Situationist strategies in his iconic work for the Sex Pistols and Suburban Press, the manifold strands of his art both continue that work whilst showing us other ways in which we can mobilise our energy and spirituality. It is this dialectic between gnosticism and dissent that lies at the heart of Reid's practice and makes him one of the great English iconoclastic artists.

Alongside www.jamiereid.org, we worked with Jamie and Isis Gallery on www.eightfoldyear.org. Every day for a year a different painting will appear, along with moon phases, saints days, seasonal plants and other festive celebrations.

Since 2006 Birkbeck Contemporary Poetics Research Centre and the Composition Department at Guildhall School of Music & Drama have been exploring the collaborative possibilities of the making of new works for voice. Each October a group of around eight poets and writers are matched with composers, and now at the outset also with singers, to form small creative teams. Through a process of workshops and seminars, in which students exchange work, listen to other traditions and practice, and become acutely aware of their own creative processes and assumptions, the groups develop songs. With Guildhall instrumentalists on board this process culminates in performance events in May at both Guildhall School and Wigmore Hall, London’s major international venue for song. Initially emerging from the Wigmore Hall song cycle project, this unique collaboration has developed an innovative richness that has been astonishing, not only enabling a reflective dialogue around the interface between text and music, but also establishing ongoing creative partnerships and new work.

Rebels in Control have built a website to document the Voiceworks projects past and present. For the 2010/2011 academic year, the Rebels will also be helping students to report on their activities via the website, individually and as creative teams, as well as participating directly in projects arising from the creation of new Voiceworks.

Alongside the installation, part of the Summer Festival at Kew Gardens, a programme of special performances, workshops, guided tours and talks gives you the chance to find out more about sound, the environment and biodiversity.

Rebels in Control were commissioned by co-producers Sound And Music and Forma to create a site promoting Whispering in the Leaves. Our CMS-driven work features time-sensitive stylesheets that subtly alter the colourways depending on what time of day you view the site.

Steffi is a DJ, label owner and party promoter in one. On first sight, this is nothing out of the ordinary these days, but when all of this is done as passionately and with high quality standards as in Steffi’s case, you better have a closer look. Until she moved to Berlin in autumn 2007, Steffi has been a motor of an Amsterdam scene defining itself in opposition to the commercial dance business in the Netherlands. She is currently a resident at Berlin's infamous Panorama Bar.

Rebels in Control were in disco heaven when Steffi commissioned them to illustrate the cover for Steffi's debut 12”, “Kill Me”, released by Ostgut Ton, the label run by Berghain / Panorama Bar. The imagery used for the artwork was born from collaboration – photos of butterflies supplied by Steffi's mother were collaged by us; typography is by Ostgut Ton's in-house designer, Yusuf Etiman.

If the success of a record producer can be judged by the weight of awards on their shelves then Trevor Horn ranks as the world’s number one. He has a hat trick of Brit Awards for Best British Producer from 1983, 1985 and 1992. In the 80s he was Rolling Stone’s Producer of the Year 1983. In the 90s, Best Producer at the 1991 Q Awards. And in the 00s, Music Week’s 2004 Producer of the Year. He produced legendary singles like Band Aid’s ‘Do The Know It’s Christmas?’ and Godley & Creme’s ‘Cry’; the mainstream pop of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Pet Shop Boys, Rod Stewart, Simple Minds and Tina Turner; cult classics like Malcolm McLaren and the World's Famous Supreme Team, Act and Anne Pigalle; and the whole spectrum of groups, with Genesis on one side and Boyzone on the other.

Paul Morley, Horn’s co-founder on projects such as Art of Noise and ZTT Records explains it best. “If in the 60s, Phil Spector created a ‘wall of sound’,” he says, “by the middle of the 80s Horn had already established his sound, a whole room of sound, the walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, decorated with absolute flourish. As an architect of sound, Horn is unashamedly an exhibitionist, an utter show off... He has proved time and time again that pop is an art form, and that he is the supreme pop artist.”

Rebels in Control have built Trevor Horn's new official site, part of our on-going work for his SPZ Group. Welcome to the pleasuresite…!

Hildur Guðnadóttir is a cellist and composer. Best known for her collaborations with múm and guest appearances with Pan Sonic, she has a rich catalogue of collaborations and varied projects behind her.

Guðnadóttir began playing cello as a child, entered the Reykjavík Music Academy and then moved on to musical studies/composition and new media at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and Universitat der Kunste in Berlin.

As a composer she has written music for plays, dance performances and films, pieces for chamber orchestras, various instruments, voices and electronics. Guðnadóttir likes to explore the nature and movement of sound, and often turns her experiments into sound and visual installations. She recently co-composed a live soundtrack to Derek Jarman's 1980 film In The Shadow of The Sun with legends Throbbing Gristle, arranged choir for performances by them in Austria and London.

Rebels in Control have designed her new website, launched in support of her second solo album (and her first for Touch), "Without Sinking". The website runs on a CMS spine, so Hildur can update the contents herself. Its design features the beautiful landscape photography of Jon Wozencroft, used on the album's packaging.

Active for more than 25 years and headquartered at the world-famous Sarm West recording studios in London, it's headed up by legendary producer Trevor Horn.

Following our work for ZTT Records, SPZ hired us to work on sites for two of their other businesses: Music Bank - Europe's leading backline hire and rehearsal studio facilities, and Perfect Songs - one of the UK's longest-running independent music publishers.

Our designs for these two sites share cues with ztt.com, building a family feel for the Group. Both sites run off a CMS spine, allowing SPZ to control their own content. In addition we have rebuilt spz.com, which now automatically collates newsfeeds from the other three sites.

ZTT Records was founded in 1983 by legendary record producer Trevor Horn, his wife Jill Sinclair and former NME journalist Paul Morley. The label was named after Italian futurist FT Marinetti's "Zang Tumb Tuum", a book describing war where zang tumb tuum is an onomatopoeic description of the sound of a machine gun.

ZTT's iconic status stemmed from Horn's big productions and Morley's mad / maddening marketing of the label. Horn and his in-house studio team (including Art of Noise members Gary Langan, J.J. Jeczalik, Anne Dudley as well as Stephen Lipson and Bob Kraushaar) created endless 'diversions' (aka remixes) of every track produced, a pioneering concept. Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Grace Jones, Art of Noise, Seal, 808 State and Propaganda were all chart and critical successes for the label.

2008 saw ZTT celebrating its 25th anniversary with deluxe reissues of 808 State's catalogue alongside the definitive Zang Tumb Tuum box set. Rebels in Control were hired by ZTT to fashion a brand new online presence. Working closely with in-house archivist Ian Peel, the Rebels have built a clean, uncluttered but in-depth CMS-driven site with many references and winks to ZTT's deep design heritage. The site will grow over the coming months as Peel and the Rebels add content covering the labels vast archive; 25 years of creativity, housed online.

In late 2009, Rebels in Control commenced work on a series of redesigns of classic ZTT albums. More info here.

Since its first release in 1982, Touch has created sonic and visual productions that combine innovation with a level of care and attention that has made it the most enduring of any independent music company of its time.

Rebels in Control have redesigned the Touch website in close collaboration with founders Jon Wozencroft and Mike Harding. Based around a CMS backbone, the site is intended to be an archive of the publishers activities from their very beginning onwards, featuring a complete catalogue, reviews archive, the TouchRadio mp3 project, essays from Touch and even a recipe book…

The site is augmented by the TouchShop which offers CDs and other releases by Touch and associated labels. The TouchShop now has a design harmonious with the Touch website making it a richer experience, with clearer navigation, tidier information display and larger packshots throughout.

These ventures are part of an ongoing relationship with the publishers, which has previously included designing microsites for Touch artists, and cover art for sister label Ash International.

Rebels in Control have worked on microsites the labels' artists, including those for his brother Steve Jansen, Sylvian and Jansen's group project Nine Horses and legendary avant-garde guitarist Derek Bailey and an artists' page for new signing Thomas Feiner incorporating pictures of Jean Cocteau taken by Cecil Beaton, among others.

Our most recent work for Sylvian has been tied to his breathtaking 2009 album, Manafon, for which we built new versions of his official site, a stand-alone microsite for the album and a new online shop for his label.

Isis Gallery is a new arrival on the London art scene; Soho based and representing artists who create beautiful works, primarily on paper.

Isis is currently working with legendary Sex Pistols illustrator Jamie Reid and the magickal art of cult musician David Tibet. There are drawings and collages by Antony Hegarty, the breathtakingly precise, detourned drawings by former tattoo artist Ruth Marten and Alice O'Malley's intimate silver gelatin prints of Lower East Side characters.

Rebels in Control have designed a CMS-managed website for Isis and its artist pages, clean and minimal in style, announcing Isis activities and providing plenty of background reading on Isis artists.

The Opiates are Robert Solheim and Billie Ray Martin. Their forthcoming album Hollywood Under The Knife explores paths pioneered by the Chicago house and Detroit techno heroes, not least Electribe 101, with the aim of taking things forward a step in history.

Although Kraftwerk and Yazoo have been mentioned as influences, their very unique brand of electronic music is as much Carpenters as it is cutting-edge electro, with a nod to current minimal influences.

Rebels in Control designed the stark cover art for their debut EP, Anatomy Of A Plastic Girl, available as a limited 10" vinyl and digital download. Please visit their MySpace page for further information.
